Vet School reality TV show airs September 19

Whether you’re a new student wondering what’s ahead, or a professional who wants to remember the “good old days” of your veterinary education, a new reality TV show may be what you’re looking for.

Nat Geo WILD, in collaboration with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), is premiering a new series, Vet School, on Sept. 19 at 10/9c on Nat Geo WILD.

All six episodes will also be available for viewing on NatGeoTV.com and other multi-platforms such as Nat Geo TV apps, Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon, according to Nat Geo WILD’s blog.

A 15-minute sneak peak is available now.

The show highlights the experiences of three first-year students and four fourth-year students, and covers topics such as dental surgery, cardiology, and anesthesiology, with cats, dogs, horses, sheep, cows, and a miniature donkey.

As the first-year students wrestle sheep for a blood sample and the fourth-year students learn how to handle life-and-death surgeries and emergencies, the camera captures the pressures, rewards, and occasional sadness of life as an aspiring veterinarian.

“We viewed this show as a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the veterinary profession and to help the public understand the rigorous education leading to a veterinary degree,” explained CVM Interim Dean Lorin D. Warnick, DVM, PhD.
