Resources available for antibiotic stewardship

Antibiotics are the wonder drugs of the modern era. But overuse can lead to antibiotic resistance, when bacteria fail to respond to the drugs designed to kill them.

To that end, Washington State Veterinary Medical Association (WSVMA), in partnership with the Washington State Department of Health, Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health, Washington State Department of Agriculture, and University of Washington Center for One Health Research, have developed a brochure to help veterinarians and staff prescribe antibiotics wisely.

Offered as part of last week’s Get Smart About Antibiotics Week, the brochure, the Judicious Use of Antimicrobials, can be downloaded from the WSVMA website. It includes tips for communicating with clients, especially when prescribing antibiotics is not warranted.
