Pets to be featured on postage stamps

America’s love affair with animals will now become official, thanks to a government stamp of approval in the form of the humble postage stamp.

In May, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be launching a series of Forever postage stamps, featuring photographs of 20 pets.

The pet line-up includes puppies, betta fish, iguanas, hamsters, goldfish, parrots, guinea pigs, tortoises, rabbits, kittens, corn snakes, mice, hermit crabs, chinchillas, gerbils, dogs, parakeets, horses, cats, and geckos.

“The stamp subjects came from of the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC), who chose the subjects based on the public’s love of pet-related stamps,” Sue Brennan, Senior Public Relations Representative with the USPS, told NEWStat.

“Existing photos from photographer Eric Isselée—who specializes in photos with white backgrounds—were selected and licensed to make these beautiful stamps.”

The USPS has showcased pets before, in seven individual stamps since 1979. However, this is the first time that 20 pets have been showcased in one set.
