1. Who am I?

  • I enjoy running with an English pointer named Dave.
  • I graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • I completed a rotating internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey and then did a small animal clinical nutrition residency at the University of Tennessee.
  • I am co-editor of the textbook Obesity in the Dog and Cat.
  • I am a past president of the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition.
  • I was the chair of the 2021 AAHA Nutrition and Weight Management Guidelines.
  • I joined the Professional Resources Group as a Veterinary Communications Manager at Nestlé Purina PetCare in December 2021.
  • I have two orange cats named Jake and Charles.

  1. How to perform a complete nutrition assessment including Body Condition Score and Muscle Condition Score.
  2. How to differentiate physiologic and pathologic changes associated with aging related to nutritional status.
  3. How to recognize and acknowledge a client's perception with regards to pet nutrition before providing a nutritional recommendation.

2. Who am I?

  • I am a graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • I own Mid Atlantic Cat Hospital and Mid Atlantic Feline Thyroid Center in Queenstown, Maryland.
  • I am the current president of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
  • I enjoy hiking, biking, and generally being the typical introverted veterinarian.
  • I am co-chair of the 2023 AAHA Selected Endocrinopathies of Dogs and Cats Guidelines task force.

 

3 Things you will learn in my AAHA Con sessions . . .

  1. How to identify and manage the various forms of hyperthyroidsim, especially the ones that don't fit our usual image of the typical hyperthyroid cat.
  2. How to choose the right patients for SGLT2 inhibitor drugs, as well how to monitor and treat complications of those drugs.
  3. How to take a fresh look at hyperaldosteronism, hypothyroidism, and hypersomatotropism.

3. Who am I?

  • I’m originally from Dallas, Texas.
  • I received my bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences and my DVM from Texas A&M.
  • I completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship and internal medicine residency at the University of Georgia (UGA).
  • I became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2013.
  • I founded the UGA Veterinary Diabetes & Endocrine Clinic.
  • I am currently an associate clinical professor of internal medicine at Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • I am the director of the Texas A&M Veterinary Endocrine Clinic.
  • I am married to a veterinary radiologist and have three children, two dogs, and a cat.

  1. How to identify the limitations of commonly used testing for hypothyroidism.
  2. How to explain the pros and cons of diagnostic and differentiation testing for Cushing's syndrome.
  3. How to better understand therapeutic principles of treating feline endocrinopathies.

4. Who am I?

  • I enjoy working on paleopathology research in my spare time.
  • I’m originally from Washington, DC
  • I am a board-certified internal medicine specialist at BluePearl NE Portland.
  • I completed a PhD in vertebrate paleontology in 2007 and got my DVM from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2011.
  • I completed a rotating internship at UW in 2012, and did a partial specialty oncology clinical trials internship at UW.
  • I started an internal medicine residency at Massey University and completed my residency at Purdue University.
  • I completed an ACVIM Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in nephrology and urology in 2017 and received a certificate of achievement in hemodialysis from UC Davis in 2018.
  • I have mentored undergraduates, graduate students, professional students, specialty interns, and residents and served as an internship director at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists.
  • I am involved in advocacy for gender-diverse individuals in the veterinary profession.
  • I am President-Elect of ASVNU and a PrideVMC industry liaison.
  • I currently serve on the scientific design review committee and IRB for BluePearl.

  • I’m founder of The Social DVM, a consulting firm helping veterinary professionals learn how to manage and grow their social media, online reputation, and marketing strategies.
  • I earned a DVM from the University of Illinois and received the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
  • I served as medical director for a large hospital in St. Louis.
  • I’m the author of Social Media and Marketing for Veterinary Professionals.
  • I write a column for Today’s Veterinary Business.
