AAHA recognizes 2018 veterinary students for excellence in primary care

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is proud to announce the 2018 recipients of the AAHA Awards for Proficiency in Primary Care. AAHA works with the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges’ Primary Care Veterinary Educators to present these awards in recognition of fourth-year AAHA student members who have shown outstanding clinical proficiency in primary care. The program is open to all fourth-year students who attend a veterinary college with an AAHA-accredited teaching hospital.

"Um . . . you got anything besides meat?"

Raw food diets are rooted in the notion that dogs and cats are carnivores who crave protein and evolved to eat meat. But is meat what they really want to eat? Maybe only if it tastes good. A new study shows that when food is altered to remove the appetizing taste, dogs and cats will pass up protein in favor of other macronutrients. Specifically, dogs prefer fat, and cats like carbs.

Cracking the window won’t help

Parking in the shade on a sunny day won’t necessarily save a pet left in the car from heatstroke, or worse. A new study of temperatures inside parked cars shows that a car parked in the sun would reach lethal temperatures faster than one parked in the shade, but even in a shaded car, heat buildup could prove deadly.
