All disasters are local. And so are disaster responses. Now the AVMA has a plan to get veterinary first responders across the country on the same page.

“We did really well at the beginning of COVID,” said Meghan Curtis, Executive Director of Project V.E.T.S. “People were really very generous. And then it kind of tapered off.”   

According to the ASPCA, 83% of pet owners live in an area impacted by disasters. But only 46% have a disaster preparedness plan in place.
